How this percentage calculator works

The formula
Percent of a number = number × percent ÷ 100. Increase = number + that amount. Decrease = number − that amount.
Example
15% of 240 is 36. Adding 15% gives 276, and subtracting 15% gives 204.
Tips
To find what percent one number is of another, divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. To reverse an increase, divide by 1 plus the percentage as a decimal, not subtract the same percentage.
